Soundtrack for HYBYCOZO Art Installation

Sleepersound has always flirted with the idea of writing soundtracks. Our musical style tends to swirl with a dramatic flare that lends itself well to film. Our cinematographer, Stephen, creates original video content for live shows and mixes it on the fly to completely immerse the listener in our creative world.

So, when we were approached to create a soundtrack for an ‘immersive art installation in Downtown Milwaukee’, our interest was obviously peaked. Turns out, the installation is from an incredibly cool artist duo named HYBYCOZO. They create giant geometric sculptures that are interactive and play with light to create a truly magical atmosphere! Have you been to one of our shows?! It was a perfect fit.

Per the HYBYCOZO ( short for Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone) website:

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. The work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with patterns and textures that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Their works celebrate the inherent beauty of geometric form and pattern, and compose them in ways that harmonize the experience of sculpture, light, and shadow. HYBYCOZO is short for The Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone and represents the artists ongoing journey investigating the myriad dimensions of geometry.

They have permanent public artworks around the world from Dubai to Istanbul, Las Vegas, Sacramento, New Zealand, and the SF Bay Area. They have shown globally in Singapore, Brazil, Australia, and Canada and have been exhibited with institutions such as The Smithsonian, The Cincinnati museum of art, The Oakland Museum of California, and The Sharjah Museam of Art in the UAE.

If you’re in the Milwaukee area, our work will be presented on January 19th and 20th in the evening in Cathedral Square, come say hello! We do not plan to release this music, so come enjoy it in person with us.

Much Love! Thank you for the support!

X-Ray Healer

Hello friends!

2022, amiright? This year has been a good one for reintegration to society from an admittantly feral state. Being from the cold north of Wisconsin, Sleepersound is about to return to wild roots and into the recording cycle for the winter, but we had to get just a few more shows in before we closed it up.

We opened the weekend at home, with a Friday night of fantasticly lush music from Milwaukee locals, ADORNER and TREESREACH, hailing from Cedar Rapids IA. There's not enough good things today about these two groups! Much love and thanks for hanging at the VERY famous X-Ray Arcade.

After a long night, we packed into the van and drove to Indianapolis for what would be an undoubtedly memorable show. Hosted at HEALER, a DIY art studio, gallery, and alternate universe, we were greeted to an incredible array of vibrate and beautiful interactive vignettes. The converted office space is filled with dozens of blanket forts, like the ones you built as a kid under the dining room table. Crawling through little rooms with flashing TVs, magical forest scenes with soft fake grass, and giant dragon dens, the space had a surreal vibe.

We took the stage with the DEN DWELLERS, ISOLATION DRILLS, and ROOMS, all Indianapolis artists. The music was all perfect and beautiful and we can't wait to get back to Indy!

Overall, the van held up, the music was great, and the venues made us all feel right at home. We've got one more show this year, then it's back to the studio for a hopeful spring release! We've got so much great material… it's gonna be dope!

Love,

Sleepersound

WORLD PREMIER - "Emissaries (LIVE)" on 'The Big Takeover'

You want new music? Check this out! Just a little taste of good things to come and a huge thank you to The Big Takeover for the feature.

In the words of Sleepersound Drummer, Dan Niedziejko:

This track is an exclusive pre-production live cut of an unreleased song called “Emissaries”. Our most recent record “Idle Voices”, which was recorded over the pandemic, really got our collective juices flowing. While this song is unreleased and destined for the next album proper, we feel like it’s been a track that has really earned a spot in our live setlist rotation. It just missed the cut for “Idle Voices” based on production timelines. It’s an unusual song for us because, frankly, everyone is playing just one instrument and not switching to synths and back and forth, which is a real departure for us. When we play this, it’s a lot of fun to channel all of our energy into just one instrument, one groove and feel this one coming off the stage and into the audience. Can we say a little more “stripped down” despite the shoegaze guitar hook at the end? The next record is coming together and it’s songs like this, with some variation on approach – at least for us – that is really getting us excited for the next chapter.

'The Vinyl Guide' podcast speaks with Sleepersound.

Hey everyone! Drummer Dan Niedziejko had the honor of spending time with Nate Goyer of the awesome podcast The Vinyl Guide, a podcast for fans and collectors of vinyl records! Dan and Nate walk through the Sleepersound writing process, the live video mixing at shows, and how vinyl records fit into our overall creative vision.
